woooot! hi, guys. in honor of the revival games & trying to bring life back to the forum, i thought i'd get us all back into the spirit of writing. after all, it's what we're all here for, right? c: i don't really know what this story is, to be honest. i saw this one tumblr text post that said, "what if tattoos just randomly appeared on our body and we had to go on a journey to find out what they meant?" well, that's pretty much what this is about. i'm still staying in my fantasy genre. i can't seem to stray away from it. i love fantasy and i love tattoos, so why not make a story about it? right now it's really short, and it's not very planned out. i wouldn't be surprised if i didn't finish it- i'm going to try to, but no promises. i'll post a little snippet of what i have now as the prologue- so, tell me what you think of it/whether i should keep going? c: t a t t o o
a world where you don’t choose your ink
your ink chooses you
“They say people can summon your ink. I never believed that. Not until I met Damon Everly.”
~
p r o l o g u e
As hard as I try, my ink doesn’t come.
Everywhere I walk, I see people. Elders, with their arms and legs covered with experience. Young adults, with few pictures littering their bodies. Children, blank as an empty canvas.
And then there’s me. Still empty.
I guess I’m not the only one. No one in our school has their ink yet, but I want to be the first. I want to get out. Legend says when your ink comes, it foretells what your destiny is- what you’re meant to be, or puts you on a path to it. You just follow that picture until you know what it means. As soon as you get your ink, you’re free to leave school. Officials see it as becoming an adult, and going after your future. Months pass by, and Arvydas High is still blank. No one has left. Days and days go by where I’m checking my arms, legs, back, everywhere. And still nothing.
~~
When you see a head of hair that bright, it’s hard to miss. Right in front of me, not making a sound, was a boy I’d never seen before. Throngs of teens surrounded us, taking their seat in the crowded auditorium that we’d sat in so many times. Lectures always filled the air, with what to do once we were adults, not to rush it, to let destiny take its course. Something we’d all heard too many times before.
“Move it, Darling,” someone behind me sneered, elbowing me forward and into a chair. I toppled onto the boy in front of me.
“I’m so sorry,” I stammered, finally getting a look at him as he turned around. My cheeks must have been the color of his fiery hair. It framed his face, a strand or two falling over his chest-nut colored eyes, twinkling as he smiled.
“It’s okay,” he grinned, “Darling. Is that your name?”
“No, it’s my last name,” I explained, “Lina. That’s my name.”
“Hello, Lina Darling,” he said pleasantly. “I’m Damon. Damon Everly.”
welp, that's it for now. just keeping it short. obviously chapters will be longer- just wanted to give you guys a taste of what it's about.

not sure if this is exactly interesting or not, kind of still introducing everything. but alas here is chapter one c h a p t e r o n e : d e f i a n c e
“I’ve nev- I’ve never seen you here before. Are you new?”I asked nervously. Although I wasn’t socially anxious, I was already worrying about what this boy would think of me.
“Yes,” he answered, smiling.
The way he spoke was something that caught me as soon as I talked to him. His words flowed freely, properly, smoothly… As if he didn’t even have to think. Maybe that’s what it seemed like because I’m such a big over-thinker.
“Alright, alright, quiet down,” bellowed a school official, the rest of us groaning as the woman stepped up to the podium. This woman was known as Genna Dupre, one of the nastiest people you’ll ever meet. She was probably in her late 20s, though she acted as if she were much, much older. Snappy, ill-tempered and rude, one constantly wondered how in the world she’d been chosen to work with children. Unlike most people, her tattoos weren’t flaunted. You’d always see her covered up, with slacks and jackets. No one had ever seen them before, and to be honest, none of us really cared.
She began a long lecture on the history of our society, about how everything worked, about how our destiny would soon be upon us; and how we had to follow our tattoos when they came.
And that was when I looked at Damon’s arm.
Delicate lines were being traced onto his skin by nothing in particular, swirling and turning to form the outline of something I couldn’t quite make out yet. Mesmerized, I continued to watch the invisible force draw, decorating his arm with lines, dots, and when I looked closely, it looked somewhat like a lock, one with a key that I waited patiently to be drawn somewhere next to it, but it never appeared.
“Damon,” I whispered, pointing to his arm, “look.”
His brown eyes were wide with surprised as he gazed at the ink appearing on his pale skin, the shading and lines now complete, the lock now clearly visible. “When did this—“
“Just now,” I replied.
Although I was happy for him, my heart sank slightly. This boy, this mysterious boy who hadn’t been here even for a day was already gone. The one who’d taken a slight interest in me, who actually stopped to talk to me instead of teasing me about the timid person I was.
“What am I supposed to do?” he asked, awestruck. “Can I just walk out?”
“I suppose you could. You’re the first one, you know.”
“First one to what?”
“Have their ink appear. No one at this school has gotten it for the past 5 years we’ve been here.”
He laughed, “Well, I’m special then.”
“You are,” I whispered, directing my attention back to Genna and trying not to think about how Damon had pretty much left already.
“And remember, without art on your body, you’re not to leave the city, although with art it is still frowned upon and you must have specific governmental consent. You young people constantly talk about getting out and leaving this place- without something to guide you, you’ll be useless and stupid,” she said matter-of-factly.
“Excuse me,” a voice next to me said, and everyone turned in their chairs to look at Damon, who was staring intently at Genna, a sour look on her prim face.
“Not to be impolite, but might I ask, weren’t you a teenager once, Miss… Dupre, was it?” he asked confidently. “Didn’t you ever dream of going your own way instead of following everyone else?”
Her gaze softened for a moment, and then returned to its usual scornful appearance. “Mr. Everly, I can’t imagine why you would ask such a question.”
“Curiousity, ma’am. Unless you’re against that,” he said boldly, “which frankly, you seem to be.”
A hush covered the auditorium, faces looking at Genna and back to Damon, awaiting her response.
“I am astonished at the way you carry yourself. Surely you have some respect for your elders,” she snapped.
“I have a large amount of respect for those above me, ma’am, although I can’t help but wonder why you won’t let us leave the city. The whole point of your tattoos is to find what you’re supposed to be. How are you supposed to find yourself if you’re confined to one place, like a bird in a cage?” he pressed.
Murmurs quickly spread throughout the crowd of kids.
Her lips were pressed flat into a thin line as she glared at the red-headed boy next to me, trying to think of something to say.
“You will do as you’re told,” she said coldly, “and ask no more questions. Is that understood?”
“But there must be a reason as to why,” he persisted.
“You referred to people as birds in a cage. What do birds get out of living in a cage?” she said smartly.
“Nothing,” Damon replied. “They’re trapped. Day after day, they’re forced to live in somewhere they’re not supposed to be, mindlessly sitting on a perch with nothing to do and everything being the same. They don’t even have a chance to fly away and find a better life.”
“Caged birds have everything handed to them. They are safe, they are warm, they are fed, and they’re away from the dangers that lurk in the wild. There is nothing more to be done, as they are happy. You, having a young, spirited, stupid mind, see this as the other way around because the only thing teenagers are good at is rebellion,” she spat, emphasizing the last word.
“Miss, the stupid minds you’re talking about are the future,” he said simply.
“And you’re not fully educated yet, which means for now, I am superior to you, and you’ll stay in your seat and do as you’re told.”
“Ma’am, as of now, we seem to be equals,” said Damon, rising from his chair.
“And how in the world might that be?”
“Because I seem to have a lock on my arm that wasn’t there 5 minutes ago.”
